Retro Rufflers: Finally in Stock

Yes you read correctly, those photos say '08. It's almost a year old and seriously I've found it almost impossible to keep these in stock. Jenny sent me this lovely photo a year ago as a customer appreciation pic but then almost immediately I sold out of this print and then all prints I added after that. Jenny takes the most lovely photos. Check out her photography site here and her blog here. And if you are in California's Bay Area really consider having her do some photos for you they are sure to be great.

I didn't share this photo a year ago mostly because I couldn't make more at that time. Seriously this little vintage swimsuit inspired jumper has been so hard to keep in stock. People have just been snatching it up seriously minutes after I list a new one. But I'm taking my chance to post this now because I have a good handful of options available in the shop right now. Here are all the new fabric options. Of course I'm always open to custom orders but these are the fabric combos that I've put together ready to make more of these.

So if you've been looking for these go now. I do have plans for a black and white one out of a cool geometric print but I haven't had a chance to sew up a sample of that yet but let me know if you're interested in that too.

p.s. anyone know how to get rid of the black outline?

mmmm basil

This weekend was full of enjoying the spoils of the garden. Yesterday after a trip to the farmers market my mom and sister and I raided my basil plants and made some almond/pine nut pesto. I threw in some of the spinach leaves too. So good I think I've had it on 3 things already.

Today we needed a smaller dinner so I pulled out some of my 5 minute bread dough and made a pizza. Topped with pepperoni (zapped and sliced to get rid of some of that grease), jack, cheddar, blue cheese and pine nuts finished with some more basil.

There's just something rewarding about reaping previous days work, like using bread dough that I made weeks ago (yup I keep it that long, I haven't gotten sick yet), and eating herbs that I nursed to life months ago. I am getting so so excited to see the fruits of the rest of the garden. Thank you all for all the wonderful tips, I've eased up on the watering, gave them some nutrients and they're looking way better.

But back to the pizza, what are some of your guy's favorite topping combos. It was nice to have something so easy and a bit different than our norm. Any tips?

Play Ground Shorts Giveaway Update

So I made Tira try on the shorts and they are kinda big on her *shaking my fist at my mom -the measurement supplier*. They are kinda long and could be tighter in her waist (but that's an easy fix I could just take the elastic in). But that said I think as they are, with the measurements I gave, they would suit a 3 or 4 year old better.

Calling All Gardeners, I still don't know what I'm doing

So remember these babies that I started from seed, well yeah, I suppose you can see for yourself. Well for the past month the rain has been watering my porch container garden and now that it's all sunshine out I've got some questions. I'm hoping some of you might have experience. So I'm going to sound like an idiot but really I just planted these cause my friend was like, hey let's grow food, la di da. Yup. I'll ask her tomorrow night some but I like to get multiple opinions. So here goes, don't laugh or if you do just don't let me know.

1. So am I supposed to pick off the yellow leaves? (if you click on the side picture it should make it bigger, the lower leaves are what I'm unsure about)
2. Are the brown dots on the leaves okay?
3. How do I know if they are getting enough water? How about too much?
4. So all I'm doing is watering them, is there something else I'm supposed to be doing.
5. Should they be all limp looking or is something wrong? Cause the tomatillo looks all strong and lush but everything else looks sad. (the picture below has the tomatillo dead center, now look at the tomatoes around, see droopy, or is that just how tomatoes are)

See told you they were pathetic questions but if any of you with a green thumb have suggestions I'd love to hear. I'm a first time veggie garden mommy so I'm hoping I'm just being paranoid but really if you notice something please tell me. Most of the guys in the middle are tomatoes and peppers if that helps any. Along the back fence in the top picture I've got snap peas (that I'm not sure will survive) and green and purple beans(I have one wee bean, I hope it lives), I've also got some zuccs and patty pans but I think they're out of the shot or on the edge. Oh yeah and herbs and greens are out of shot but totally doing well. Yup so impart your knowledge on me. Please

Giveaway: Playground Shorts (closed)

So ever since I saw these little shorts on the Katie Did blog, I've been dying to make a pair or more for Tira -the wild park-goer. So here is my concoction and I've made an extra pair to share. I don't have any action shots of these yet but I wanted to get the giveaway started anyways.

Tira is a tall 2 year old and I made these off of her measurements but I think they may very well fit up to a 4 year old but I'll give you some measurements so you can judge that.

UPDATE: these are kinda big on Tira, who usually wears a 2T. I'll be taking hers up in the rise area but I'm keeping these the same for the giveaway so that the measurements are right. But That means it's probably better suited for a 3 or 4 year old.

Waist: 19 stretches to 24"
Hips: 26"
Rise (from the front waist under the crotch to the back waist): 17"

Remember they need wiggle room these aren't stretchy bicycle shorts or anything like that. (The 80's are back but not that back) The little deer fabric is a fun light weight canvas so I hope that it will provide Tira and the winner of this giveaway may days of sliding and swinging at the park.

Rae Gun Finds: Apparently I like birds

Here are just a few things that have caught my fancy lately from Etsy. I recently passed 700 sales in my main shop and I like to celebrate with some shopping of my own. Here are just a couple things that I
bumped into while trying to figure out what I will treat myself to for this little milestone.

Imaginationkids's stackers are so great. The colors, shapes, just really original and classic feeling. I particularly love this rainbow one.

I love this vase from red hot pottery. Yup just love it! The birds are just perfect sitting there on the edge like they're having a little conversation about what's in the vase.

Catsmiaow makes the most adorable little creatures but I am particularly fond of this wee bird. They are a tad pricier than I usually spend on milestone treats but seriously I'm not sure it gets any cuter. Hmmm I'm noticing a bird trend.

With my hair short (and me officially deciding I look better with long hair)I'm trying to find ways to deal with it until it gets long again. I'm really
loving these hair pins from Ben and Oliver. Oh and I just discovered they have a 'sale of the day', so clever, and lucky for me, it's making me want their rose earrings too now. Seriously, did I just pick another bird thing, really, I didn't plan this out. sheesh who knew I liked birds so much.

Wow I guess I was on a bird spree last time I went around adding to my favorites because there's 2 more bird things on my next page of favorites alone. Since a theme has emerged I'll just go with it. This card by justanotherday is SO cute. Well there you have it, some of my favorite, bird things (apparently) found on Etsy.

Giveaway: Crayon Cozies

I made little Tira a crayon cozie as an attempt to use up my scraps (and because my friend had just made one and I fell in love). And after seeing how much Tira liked hers I thought it would make for a fun giveaway (plus it helps me use up my scraps that are so hard for me to part with). I made two to share. The first one is made with some Japanese Alice in Wonderland fabric and the second one is made with a really fun retro feeling print of kids playing. The Alice one has a lot of pink so it's kinda girly and the other is probably more boyish/gender neutral.

As always to enter this giveaway link back to this blog post on your blog (or other internet thing-y). As always feel free to use my pictures for giveaway posts. Next comment on this post telling me where you linked it. And please make sure I have a way to contact you (ex. if your blog/profile is private leave your email address). I will pick two winners so tell me which you want (and remember if you link in different places you can have multiple entries) . For more info on these giveaways and to see a list of past winners see this post.

As a new little bonus I've set up a Facebook fan page if you want to enter by posting to your facebook just become a fan first which you can do that here. (p.s. it's brand new so it's kinda naked)

Customer Appreciation Pic

Okay so I know that I promised 2 giveaways this week but there's too much going on and my next one isn't quite done. So it'll have to wait until next week. The other two are still open (see the side bar for more info)

In the mean time enjoy this little cutie. I love pictures from customers they make me so so happy. I know I say that every time but it's true. It's hard to explain how encouraging it really is.

And on a serious note IF YOU HAVE KIDS READ THIS. I think it's a good reminder.

Oh the frustration

So I'm sitting in my car picking up wireless from the ethos cause my internet that I pay a fortune for is out again, I swear once a year at least I have those people out here errrr and that's not counting times that don't require house calls. Anyways I was going to post another giveaway but I'm holding off.

But still enter the other ones and remember the diaper cover one ends THIS Friday. And don't forget about the fabric one. Yup.

Okay so if you're trying to get a hold of me I'm not just shunning you it's freaking qwest. Seriously besides getting cable do I have any other options, cause we're so tired of this?! Hopefully it'll be fixed tomorrow though.

Tell Me About Digital Scrapbooking

So you probably can tell that I like documenting things. And since I've managed to get my family to move out here complete with the babies I've got to get control of my pictures. I love scrap booking but I just can't do the old style again (too much time, too much mess, too much money). Digital scrap booking sounds really appealing but I have no idea where to start. I'm hoping some of you might be able to give me some guidance. I've got a few questions but really since I haven't even gone there I probably don't know what questions to ask, so tell me what you think I should know. p.s. I've got photoshop and I'd like to use it/learn to use it better and I'd rather start with free stuff.

1. Are there any great websites with good digital scrap booking/photoshop tips?
2. What size should I make things (considering I'd want to print these or get them printed when I'm done)?
3. What are my options with printing? What have you guys tried and like or dislike?
4. Any cool/fun things I should try?

Yeah obviously I don't know what questions to ask but hopefully some of you will help me get started.

p.s.s. I used Ginnie's Make it POP action on Tira. She loves helping me water my garden (which is doing really well I'll try and snap some shots of it this weekend, yea rain water). So I tried to get her to help me transplant, totally bad idea. She didn't get the difference between the soil that had the plants in it and the stuff in the bag that was to be moved into the empty containters so she moved my poppy seedlings into my grown tomato plant boo. Lanna on the other hand was seated far too close to my basil, in seconds of plopping her into position she one handed my basil and jammed it in her mouth. Yup gardening with the nieces is risky.

Show and Tell: Star Trek Uniforms

So here's the finished results. Pretty neat eh? I'm pretty proud of them although I was exhausted at the end of the week, you know late night sewing and then even later night shows but yeah I think they turned out pretty cool.

Oh and here's a video of the boys dancing during the first show. Enjoy.

Giveaway: Citrus Summer Ruffle Diaper Covers (Closed)

Here's the first of my month of giveaways. This month I'll be doing a giveaway every week, maybe more if I get ambitious. All of this is to kick off my regular giveaway feature that I'll be adding to my blog. To start it all off I'm giving a pair of these fun Citrus Summer Ruffle Diaper covers that the lovely Lanna is modeling. Right now my best selling items are my rocker pink ruffle diaper covers and my summer loving ruffle covers and I think it's because they are just easy to throw on a baby nakes, or with a onesie, shirt, under a dress, you know versatile easy clothing. Anyways, since I know people like these ruffle-ly butts I wanted to start off with a special new kind and I'm loving this color combo -a lot.

For this first giveaway I'm giving away one pair which can be any of the following sizes (0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-24 months, 2T, or 3T). One lucky winner will be chosen using a random number generator.

For Mommy's of boys: If you really want to enter this I can make you orange diaper covers with no rufflers so you won't feel left out for this first one! Just let me know if you win that you want it boy-ified.

To Enter:
Step 1. Blog, twitter, facebook, myspace or post to some other internet thingy (ex. forums) a link to this post. Feel free to use the picture too if you want.

If you use blogger you can click HERE to create a link. Otherwise just make a link how you normally would.

Step 2. Comment here tell me what size you want and where you posted this (give me a link if it's not connected to your comment id). Make sure I have a way to contact you in case you win.

Last Day to Enter: 6/12/2009

My attempt to preempt some questions:
Q: Can I enter more than once?
A: Yes but here are the conditions. One entry per place you link this giveaway. Basically you can enter multiple times if you post to multiple blogs or twitter and blog and facebook, etc. Post a seperate comment for every post you do and that will enter you the appropriate number of times.

Q: Can I enter if my blog is private?
A: Yes but make sure you include your email address in your comment so I can contact you if you win.

Q: Should I use the main blog link or the post specific link?
A: Please use the link that's specific to this giveaway since I'll be doing a number of giveaways and we can keep things straight on which giveaway you're entering.

Okay if you have any other questions let me know and I'll try and update this if I think they would be helpful for others. Okay here goes hope you have fun with this. I had lots of fun putting the fabric combos together and chasing Lanna (who crawls at the speed of lightning) to get a shot that wasn't totally blurry. Check back even if you've got no baby girls to enter for in because I won't just be doing baby girly stuff for the giveaways. P.S. I'm trying to work on my photo editing and I used Pioneer Woman's fun fresh and colorful action on this pic.
