Work in Progress: Star Trek Uniforms
Yeah so we (Rotten Musicians) are doing a couple shows this weekend and one is sponsored by The Geek Show Podcast which to us means we need to totally geek out the set. I'm not sure why I thought this was a good idea but I thought it would be hysterical if we all showed up in Original star trek uniforms that I would just whip up. Remember this is the same bunch that did the Dungeons and Dragons video. Yeah what was I thinking? Anyways they're
going to be a quick and dirty job for sure and we're doing them out of this thickish knit (it's the only stuff the right colors we could find) so it might be a little toasty and I am not the best at sewing on knit so it may be a disaster but it should still be funny. Anyways I've got tons to do before I get to the uniforms but I did want to invite anyone in the Salt Lake area to stop by. It's at the Woodshed which is 60 E. 800 S. We should go on around 9:30 or 10:00 ish but it's a show so who knows how accurate that is. And it's only 5$. Yup. It would be fun to see some of you there. I'll try to take a picture of the whole crew for the rest of you.

Customer Appreciation Pic
It's that time again. Yup you know I love them. These are from a little one's special carousel themed birthday party. How stinking fun is that idea. So cute.
So Lanna's first birthday is in a couple months
But back on topic. I've got a happy heart seeing this cutie have a good second b-day celebration in my little dress (still one of my all time favorite ones in fact)

The Big Reveals
So first off you see the hair. I'm not sure I like it. It feels to frumpy mommy to me but we'll see what it's like when it's not all straightened and blow dried. I think I'll warm up to it I usually do. But I did love the hair cutting experiences and I have a feeling that I actually like the cut but not necessarily this particular styling of it. So thanks for all the encouragement to go short. This is actually based off the Catherine Zeta Jones pic and I think it looked a lot closer before he did the 15 minutes of blow drying.
And in other news I've decided I really want to do giveaways regularly. Some stuff I want to try out and I'm happy to make a couple for the neices and to give but I don't want to be making them over and over for the shop. Other times I see awesome tutorials or ideas in blogland that I couldn't sell in the shop for copyright reasons but I still want to do. Another reason is when it's for the shop I feel like I have to buy tons of fabric and be stocked. But if I'm just making 2 well a yard or so it is. Finally somethings just wouldn't fit in the shop but they still look fun to make and share. I think by having a giveaway regularly it'll be accountability for me to come up with new and different stuff. Instead of just new prints for my standard shop designs. Yup so that's the news. Not that I might not also sell similar things that I'd giveaway ever but I just think it would be fun.
So this might be totally crazy but I'm going to start off big and do a giveaway a week starting on June 1st for the whole month of June eek! I'm not thinking that'll be the norm but hey why don't we kick things off big. I'm envisioning, my standard kid clothes, but also toys, maybe bag sorts of things, and possibly even some of my fabric (it'll be good for me to share that haha). But yeah let anyone who you might think would like some free goodies know, June 1st.
There you have it my two tid bits to share.

Nasty hair, what to do, what to do?
I liked my long hair but I think I'm over it. eh I'm not sure. It' just gross now. I'm way overdue for a cut or trim or any attention but I've been busy and I"m not sure what to do. Do I want another long cut but with better style or go shorter. Blah if you guys have ideas let me know cause I'm gonna get it cut one way or another and this time (unlike the last 3) I'd like it to look somewhat good. Okay here are the two that I'm tossing around. But seriously if you've got a better idea please share.
Kim Bauer character's hair from this season
I like swoopy bangs (yeah they are so over grown I've got to pin them down or else I get looking like I've got a polygamous wave going on). I think that's my only restriction.Oh I've got naturally wavy hair and I won't really style it.
Catherine Zeta Jone's hair in Oceans Twelve

I may dry it but there will be no irons and no gunk cause I've got better things to do when I get up. So a cut that will look okay without much work. Yup.
On a different note: Yes I'm wearing a Harry Potter shirt. I'm so excited blahhhh. I think I'm deeming every Tuesday "Harry Potter Day" until I see the movie weee.

Upcycling For a Special Event Plus News for the Blog
I recently had the pleasure of making a blessing dress for my friend Jessica's baby. It was a fun project since Jessica was always my relief at the philosophy department and it was something I'd never done. She presented me with a pillowcase that had belonged to her grandmother and a couple pattern ideas.

And speaking of projects, I've got a little something up my sleeve planned for the blog. I've just been loving making special little things for my nieces and I've been really motivated to try something a little new that will be fun for all of us. That's all I'm going to say right now but tune in later this week and I'll make my big announcement.

I Can't Stop Buying Fabric
I've got a serious problem. I've always been somewhat of a fabric addict even when I was not in a sewing phase. But seriously since I opened the Fabric Shop I feel like I have no restraint. It's like my free pass to buy whatever I want. And what's worse is that I can't buy in small amounts. I used to buy 5 yards as my standard and now I'm buying bolts! Eek. Anyways my addiction means good news for you since the fabric shop is fully stocked (well I'm still adding) and the main shop will have new designs soon enough. I'm hoping to do some adult summer dresses with some of this new stuff too. Oh and I've got another big box of like 5 bolts on it's way. And really a lot of these are discontinued so it was my last chance right? Seriously I have a problem.

Customer Appreciation Pic
It's been a while since I've gotten a pic...hint hint any of you that may have any hanging out on your camera for me. I love them. And I think that's partially why I want to make the nieces more and more outfits, cause they're here, close and I can see them prancing around in them. Sunday they showed up to church in matching black and whites that I made them I should have taken a pic but they were sleeping at opposite times. Next time. Of course I love making the outfits for everyone else but it's extra fun to see them in use. Anyways, this sweetie is wearing the Country Fair dress in Alexander Henry's fun apples and pears print. Keep 'em coming.

Trekkie Love

Although I did have a Next Generation style communication badge as a kid I don't consider myself a trekkie. None-the-less we went to the new Star Trek movie this weekend. And I absolutely loved it. We got in line in the lobby with some theater worker shouting "8:30 Star Track line up here" over and over.
And it was just so irritating since the film is called Star Trek and not only is that well know but it said it all over the theater duh. Anyways I have very faint memories of the original crew but enough to recognize how the new actors tried to key into the original cast's little quirks. Besides the nostalgia of the film the story was really fun. The effects were good but not like those crazy over the top that's all it's about types of things. I just really enjoyed it. It's what remakes/prequels/sequels should be -it recognizes there is a history but adds it's own specialness. The only part that bugged me was that they felt the need to change the phrase at the end to "to boldly go where no one has gone before" or something like that instead of "no man". That pc crap really bugs me, as if we're to stupid to realize that man meant 'mankind' and like it's that important to change it, errr. But besides that it was loads of fun.
Also check out my hubby's new Star Trek song it's pretty fun. It's the one called "Captain's Log" . It's really good and I think he's still offering it as a free download if you ask see the details here.

We Caught it Early This Time
(this was from Bambara from last years dine-o-round drool drool drool)
Dine-o-round is back. And for you Salt Lake City dwellers you really need to go, really. A good number of restaurants are participating this time. Those doing lunch offer a 2 course 10$ lunch and dinner is a 3 course 30$ dinner (a few do dinner for 15$ but those are the pub-ish places). Some places give you one set menu and others you have options. We usually catch dine-o-round at the end and are dashing to restaurants the last weekend but nope it started yesterday and goes for a WHOLE month yes you read that right.
Tonight's destination was Caffe Molise. It was delicious. The music maker and I split a polenta and tomato appetizer, a chicken with a yummy light sauce entree which came with a salad and we finished a cheesecake. All of it was wonderful. Our friend Mark got another dine-o-round option of bruschetta, a pasta dish and also cheesecake, and Kelli got a vegan portabello and pasta thing which she raved about. I'd definitely go back. And even with splitting it was a good portion and I feel no need for more food. I should have taken pictures but I think my camera is in the charging thing or in the kitchen...yeah.
I think dine-o-round is one of the best ways to check out the pricier restaurants in town. And if you're into splitting like we do it's really a deal. There are some really great restaurants in Salt Lake for instance if you haven't been to Bambara go. It's freaking expensive but so worth it if you love food, which I do... a lot. Likewise there are a number that I wish I hadn't gone to (definitely don't go to Michelangelo's that was one of my worst dining experiences on almost every level. They aren't even on the list but I hate them that much (and I can tell you the other people in the restaurant when I went seemed to feel the same way)...end rant, but where I was going with that is that dine-o-rounds gives you the chance to check out fancier places without risking wasting too much money if it's a bust.
I've got my list of places that seem worth trying and I intend on dinning around a lot this month. Here's the list of participating restaurants.
